One of Dronfield’s premier sporting locations - The Akademy - has undergone a stunning refurbishment and been given a new lease of life.

The Akademy, on Callywhite Lane, has been under new management since the start of the year and in a short space of time has been transformed into a fitness centre that can be enjoyed by all the family.

The gym at the Akademy has been recently re-decorated, and the main machine room has the latest cardiovascular resistance and weight-lifting machines, as well as cross-trainers, rowing machines and steppers.

Each new member at the Akademy gym will receive a free assessment with the qualified instructors, and if the members wish for a training programme, these will be tailored individually by the instructors, based you what you are wanting to achieve, this is also available at no extra cost

The separate studio room is where all aerobic and fitness classes are held, one recent class added is a ladies fitness ball class. The studio room, but also doubles as a stretching area, with mats, pilates balls, punch bag and sit-up machines.

The Akademy also has a dedicated free-weights room with plenty of equipment and space for every one of all levels.

At the end of a hard session you can take advantage of the centre’s sauna or treat yourself to a treatment with the in-house beauty therapist.

The Akademy gym is now open seven days a week and a monthly membership costs £20. There is currently no joining fee. New members will receive a complimentary free day pass for a friend. If you would aren’t sure how often you will use the gym, a day pass costs £4. The Akademy has a large, free car park, which easily holds up to 60.

The Akademy is also host to four football pitches, they are currently home to many local leagues, have had 3G Astroturf installed in the last year, which is the latest in pitch technology. Each pitch is floodlit every night until 10pm and can be rented for private use.

The Akademy is the only FA affiliated sports ground in the Sheffield and Chesterfield area, meaning that each coach and referee is authorised with The Football Association. With this, all games and coaching sessions are played in accordance with the strict FA regulations, and this keeps the matches clean and fair. This makes the Akademy the ideal location for your league, as you will know that no side will receive preferential treatment and games will be played in a professional manner.

For a little bit more fun, The Akademy is the perfect spot for a sporty birthday party. Children can take to the pitches for a kick-about, or receive training from the qualified coaches. Mini-tournaments can be set up, complete with the a penalty shoot-out, and every child will receive a medal for taking part. The adjoining function suite can be used for the party afterwards.

The Akademy bar and function area has been completely transformed during the centre’s refurbishment and now makes the perfect place to relax after your sporting endeavours. Brand new flooring, décor and furniture have been installed and more drinks and draught beers have been added to the bar.
