Buckingham's

Buckingham's has many individual period features. Originally a pair of Victorian semi-detached houses that have been sympathetically converted into this attractive and relaxed hotel in Newbold, a residential area of Chesterfield.

Nick and Tina Buckingham are well known for their warm and friendly hotel, which specialises in superlative food. The hotel's modern facilities are combined with an attention to detail and quality of service.

Accommodation

Our recent refurbishment focused on increasing the space and quality of each bedroom. The result was a reduction from sixteen bedrooms to ten luxurious bedrooms! Each room is uniquely designed and boasts:

En-suite facilities with shower and bath - Colour tv with tele-text - Clock radio - Hot drink making facilities - Complementary water and mints - Smoking and non-smoking rooms - Hairdryer - Individually controlled central heating - Hand-made furniture - Direct dial telephone - Accessible computer modem points - exclusive residential restaurant.

Some rooms are designated 'superior', these are particularly spacious and include seating area, bathrobes, a trouser press and a DVD player.

This totally new concept has been conceived out of frustration and a desire to develop food that does not conform to the normal paradigms. There will be no compromise on quality, ingredients or taste, and where excellence comes as standard.

How the Restaurant with One Table started...

When a Master Chef decides to open a restaurant with just one table, you might decide that the 'vino' has finally got to him.

But Nick Buckingham with wife Tina and loyal family in tow, has done just that by uprooting himself from the kitchens of the renowned Cavendish Hotel in Baslow, to open Buckingham's Hotel and Restaurant on Newbold Road, Chesterfield.

After many years distinguished service at the Cavendish, Nick felt the time for a new challenge was right and during the summer of 2000 the move was made, enabling him to put his unique dining concept to the test.

Nick's gastronomic convictions have been entirely vindicated with strong advance bookings and a high level of repeat business. Maybe it's the fact that no meal is ever the same...maybe it's the one-to-one friendly but sincere attention...or it could be the peerless quality of Nick's cooking? Whatever it is that diners like about Buckingham's there's no denying one fact; they do like it!

So how does a restaurant with one, large and beautifully decorated table that seats 8 people very comfortably, operate exactly?
His system is surprisingly simple...

How the Restaurant works

When a booking enquiry is received on a 'vacant' date two types of table reservations are offered...either 'exclusive' or 'open'. An 'exclusive' table is for the sole use of that person's party and can be between 1 and 8 people. An 'open' table is available to anyone who happens to book on the same night, again between 1 and 8 in number. Not surprisingly, an 'exclusive' table usually works out more expensive. And once an evening has been decreed either 'open' or 'exclusive' it stays that way.

Types of Menu

Additionally, there is a choice of 4 menu levels...Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze with Platinum being the most expensive. It's important to note, however, that the levels of menu do not reflect the quality of cooking, merely the variation of the ingredients and occasionally the degree of technical expertise required in preparation. I strongly recommend my surprise menu. After consultation with you, I will create a menu that will be unique to your party of guests. The best meals are the ones I create on the night, making the most of the day's market.

Time

This is flexible, however I would suggest you arrive at 8.00pm to enjoy drinks and canapes in the lounge and for dinner to commence at 8.30pm.
