This item has no descriptionCHESTERFIELD’S all-time leading scorer, Ernie Moss, has hinted that
this Sunday’s charity match at the B2net Stadium could be his last ever
game.
Chesterfield-born Moss, aged 61, will
feature for a Spireites Legends XI in the game against a team of
soapstars organised by Phil Walker, formerly of Chesterfield and
Rotherham United. Walker’s son, Jamie, has recovered from cancer and for
the last six years has staged a match to raise funds to help cancer
charities. Moss, one of only two men to enjoy two post-war
promotions with his home town team - Ian Breckin joined him in that this
season - played 749 league games in a career spanning more than 20
years. His two Spireites step-ups were both as champions. He also won
promotion with Port Vale, Mansfield Town and Doncaster Rovers. Only
Frank Worthington, as a striker, has played more games in the league’s
history. Moss scored 245 goals, 162 for Spireites, none of them from the
penalty spot. Teaming up with Moss, for the game that kicks off
at 3pm and costs £5 for adults, will be Sean O’Neill, Alan Birch, Dave
Caldwell, Andy Morris and Shane Nicholson, amongo thers, to play a side
of actors from TV shows Emmerdale, Shameless and Hollyoaks.
